Posted on Posted in Lifestyle

I love a good wine, it completes a meal and always makes me smile! And in my travels I’ve come across some great wine regions I would have never otherwise known about. There are the go-to classics but also some up-and-coming wines that are quickly becoming my new favorites. In honor of my combined love of travel and wine, here are 10 wines I’m obsessed with right now. There are mostly reds in this mix because I tend to prefer those in the cold months of fall and winter. But truth be told, I don’t discriminate, I love all wine. These are 10 wines I’m obsessed with right now, I hope you try a few and enjoy them too. Cheers!

10 Wines I’m Obsessed with Right Now

  1. Carmenère, Chile – Las Almas, 2010

When I was in Chile earlier this year I learned about this grape varietal that I had never heard of, and it’s only grown in Chile! If you like Cabernet Sauvignon, you will love this Carmenère.

  1. Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhone, France – Domaine Berthet-Rayne, 2012

There’s no doubt about it, the French know what they’re doing when it comes to wine. This smoky red has a complex blend of flavors and is perfect on a cold evening!

  1. Chardonnay, Sonoma Valley, California – Iron Horse, 2013

On my recent visit to Sonoma I was reminded how much I love Chardonnay from California…oaky and buttery and oh so good!

  1. Rioja, Spain – Camboral, 2009

A glass of rioja is like tasting the best of Spain. Whether you pair it with tapas, paella, or drink it by itself, this rioja is just the ticket!

  1. Pinot Gris, New Zealand – Astrolabe, 2015

I first heard of pinot gris when I was in Morocco and I loved its lightness and crispness. This New Zealand pinot gris is delicious and, if you like pinot grigio, you have to try this!

  1. Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina – Torrevieja, 2012

When I was in Argentina I loved having a juicy steak with a glass of Malbec. It’s the obvious pairing with a steak dinner but it’s so good that it can stand alone too!

  1. Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara, California – Wild Horse, 2014

Santa Barbara is known for it’s fruity white varietals but it also has a great environment for pinot noir. Try this one, I discovered it during my last trip to California and it’s delicious!

  1. Riesling, Finger Lakes, New York – Fox Run, 2015

I was totally fooled by this wine, I could have sworn it was from Alsace, France. But it’s really from the Finger Lakes region of New York, which has such good terrior for reisling!

  1. Cabernet Sauvignon, Stellenbausch, South Africa – Vinum Africa, 2007

Cabernet sauvignon is my go-to favorite red wine, and this one is perfect for a chilly winter night. I discovered this long after my trip to South Africa, but it brings me right back.

  1. Chianti, Tuscany, Italy – Bitornino, 2007

If you love Italian food as much as I do, then you need a dependable chianti to enjoy with it. Get a taste of Italy with this rich chianti!
