My Female Role Models: Women Who are Changing the World

Posted on Posted in Lifestyle

It’s an amazing time to be a woman. The women of the past few generations have laid the groundwork for us and they made some really notable achievements for women and all of humankind. Thanks to their hard work and kind hearts, we now have the opportunity to build upon their progress to achieve even greater things. As a young woman trying to sort out how I will make my mark on the world, I look to my female role models for inspiration and motivation. These are five of the women who are changing the world, five of my female role models.

My Female Role Models

Malala Yousafzai

Malala took the world by storm when she stood up for girls’ right to education in Pakistan, and was shot in the head by the Taliban. She recovered and now continues to promote girls education. And she was the youngest person ever to win a Nobel Prize. She’s insanely impressive and if you haven’t already you should read her biography I Am Malala.

Tina Fey

Comedian, actress, writer, and producer, Tina Fey is breaking new ground for women in the entertainment business. She’s a consistently good person, a good role model, and funny through all the ups-and-downs of celebrity. She’s a strong woman, a feminist, and unafraid to be the boss. her biography, Bossypants, is a humorous look at her life and career, and definitely worth a read.

Emma Watson

From her launch into fame as Hermoine in the Harry Potter series, Emma Watson has used her position in the public eye to do a lot of important humanitarian work. Her influence extends far beyond the big screen; with her feminist activism gaining international acclaim. She served as United Nations Ambassador, has been named one of Time’s Most Influential People, earned the MTV Trailblazer Award, and more, as testaments to her commitment to humanitarian work. Learn more about her HeForShe campaign.

Meryl Streep

Meryl has been called the best actress of her generation, a designation I wholeheartedly support as she continues to impress audiences with her versatility on-screen. She has won numerous awards for her craft, she continues to raise the bar for what women can achieve, and she does it all with effortless class and grace. It’s daunting to even fathom all the many and varied roles she has taken on, and I personally love every movie she has been in.

Amal Alamuddin Clooney

Amal entered the realm of celebrity when she married actor George Clooney, but it is her work as a human rights activist and lawyer that makes her so impressive. She has represented many high-profile clients and through her success she is redefining what a lawyer looks like. She’s fighting for human rights and setting an example for young girls as a strong female role model, which is only fitting as Amal in Arabic for “hope.”
