Maderas Village, The Best Hotel in Nicaragua

Maderas Village, a collection of jungle huts located on Playa Maderas, is hands down the best hotel you could stay at in Nicaragua! This laid-back boutique hotel fosters an energy of passion and creativity, soulful community, reviving yoga, and chill surfing. From the hotel, a short walk through the jungle leads to the Playa Maderas beach, with uncrowded sand and surf as far as the eye can see.

Maderas Village is unmarked and unsuspecting. You need to really know where you’re going when you’re arriving, and be prepared to not want to leave! I first heard about this slice of heaven on instagram (@maderasvillage) and have wanted to visit ever since. Well it has lived up to my expectations!

Like many visitors I start my mornings here with a yoga class, followed up by a ginger root green juice. I find a hammock or other quiet space and get to work writing for a few hours, losing myself in my work in a way that can only happen in a truly creative space. The afternoons are filled with tanning on the beach and looking somewhat foolish trying to surf. Feeling productive and relaxed all at the same time, I’m ready for family-style dinner with all the other hotel guests! We swap stories of our day, describe what project we’re working on, share life stories, and laugh until our bellies hurt while toasting to new friends and new memories.

One of the guests is starting a new online business, another is recording some bluesy songs in the recording studio onsite, and a few guys came here to learn to surf. By the time I’m only halfway through my week at Maderas Village I feel a special connection to this place and the people here. I can’t put my finger on it, on how they create such a productive, yet relaxed environment, and how they make a group of strangers feel instantly like family. I can’t explain it but I can feel it. And that’s why so many guests here are return visitors.

This secret little slice of heaven was an amazing and lucky find, and I couldn’t have enjoyed Nicaragua more if I stayed anywhere else! Now you know about the secret of Maderas Village, use this information wisely!

  1. I stayed in the nearby Balcones de Majagual and though I loved the treehouse we rented, Maderas Village was so magical! Plus playa Maderas is amazing… I miss Nica!
