There are few buildings more beautiful and iconic in NYC than the New York Public Library. Its grand marbled façade requires you to crane your neck to take it in, the wide steps invite you to enjoy the view, the lions guard the library and its vast stores of knowledge, and right behind it is the lush greenery of Bryant Park. This library helped to put New York on the map as a world-class city, and so I knew I wanted to come here when I was planning a photo shoot with skilled photographer Matt of MG Photo Solutions!
I styled this look to be a fashionable tourist look, because New Yorkers are so cool and I want to fit in while still being comfortable enough to explore the city all day! It manages to look very put together and stylish with the well-placed accents, and yet I’m not held back by my fashion choices. I’m still ready to explore and walk around all day. I chose this denim dress from J.Crew, which I paired with a tan belt to give it some shape. I’ve got my trusty black riding boots on. And I chose a few accent pieces, like this crème floral scarf, silver oversize earrings, and wide sunglasses to complete the look. I finish off the look with my black cross body bag so that I have everything I need and nothing extra, no big touristy backpack or overfilled purse! And now I’m ready to explore the New York Public Library and surrounding area.
When you come to visit the New York Public Library, try to arrive for either the 9 o’clock or 2 o’clock tour. Otherwise, you’re able to take the audio guide tour any time throughout the day. When you’re in the area, be sure to stop at Bryant Park. In the summer, enjoy the greenspace, a break from the concrete jungle. You can take a picnic here or just pick up some lunch at the Le Pain Quotidien café inside the park. Also stop by the Southwest Porch, an outdoor bar in the park that’s popular at happy hour. And in winter, there’s an ice skating rink in the park!
This is just a couple blocks away from the famous Grand Central Station, which is worth a visit if you’re not traveling through there. The grand hall has a painted ceiling worthy of a museum. And to think, they almost tore down this building until Miss Jackie O stepped in to save it! In this area, you’ll also want to try Pera Mediterranean Brasserie and Lady M Cakes. (More on the latter in this post about Asian fusion restaurants in NYC!) I hope you enjoy visiting this part of NYC! The New York Public Library and surrounding area is one of my favorite parts of town!
